November ASNCOC Events: Shopping, Coffee, and Building on Strengths

November is an extra-busy month for ASNCOC (Autism Society of North Carolina Orange/Chatham chapter). The month's events kick off with a very special shopping fundraiser, followed by the monthly coffee gathering, and a with a great informational chapter meeting to finish off the month. Here are all the details:

Shop for a Cause: Talbots Fundraiser

I love shopping, and I love the work done by the Autism Society of NC, so I am very excited about this event - the Talbots shop in The Streets at Southpoint in Durham, NC is hosting an evening of fun and shopping to benefit the ASNC Durham and Orange/Chatham chapters. Come hang out and enjoy some food, relax, chat with other autism moms, and shop for a great cause. Treat yourself to something new! It is also the perfect chance to start your holiday shopping.

Be sure to invite all of your friends too (even those who are not from the autism world!) - this shopping event is open to everyone, and the more, the merrier. R.s.v.p.s are requested for planning purposes, but even if you don't get the chance to send in a reply, you are still more than welcome. Hope to see you there!

When: Thursday, November 13th 6-9pm
Where: Talbots, The Streets at Southpoint
Please R.s.v.p. to 919-484-1616

Coffee Gathering:

Every month during the school year, the Autism Society of North Carolina Orange Chatham chapter hosts informal meetings at a coffee shop. It is a great chance to chat with other parents, grandparents, and professionals who care about people with autism. Share information, make friends, ask questions, and enjoy the company of those who truly "get it".

When: Friday, November 14th from 10-11am
Where: Caribou Coffee, corner of Franklin & Estes, Chapel Hill
What: Join us in the back meeting room for coffee and casual conversation. The coffee gatherings are a great chance to meet parents, grandparents, and others who care about someone on the autism spectrum. We look forward to seeing new faces and old friends.

Chapter Meeting:

This month ASNCOC is hosting a free educational event. These evening chapter meetings offer an opportunity for parents, professionals, educators, and anyone else who has an interest in autism to come learn about important topics. The event is free and all are welcome.

Topic: Autism: Building on Strengths to Overcome Challenges
Presenter: Kim Tizzard, Autism Society of NC Autism Resource Specialist
When: Tuesday, November 18th at 7pm
Where: Extraordinary Ventures, 200 S. Elliott Road, Chapel Hill
What: This workshop offers parents and professionals a more in depth look at the four core deficits of Autism Spectrum Disorder. From there we will explore how these core deficits may trigger challenging behaviors and how to build on your child’s strength to overcome those challenges.

Childcare will be available on site. Please R.s.v.p. to asncoc@gmail.com if childcare is needed.

Hope your November is off to a great start, and hope to see y'all at these fantastic events!
