November ASNCOC Events: Coffee and Behavior Training

The Autism Society of North Carolina Orange Chatham chapter (ASNCOC) has some great events coming up for November. There is the monthly coffee gathering and a terrific chapter meeting on tap. All events are free and open to the public.

Coffee Gathering:

When: Friday, November 15th from 10 - 11am
Where: Caribou Coffee on the corner of Franklin & Estes Streets, Chapel Hill
What: Join us in the back meeting room for coffee and casual conversation. The coffee gatherings are a great chance to meet parents, grandparents, and others who care about someone on the autism spectrum. We look forward to seeing new faces and old friends!

Chapter Meeting: Behavior Training Workshop with Tracy Vail:

When: Tuesday, November 19th from 7 - 9pm
Where: Extraordinary Ventures 200 South Elliott Road, Chapel Hill (across from Whole Foods)
Presenter: Tracy Vail, Speech Language Pathologist / Autism Consultant / Certified Crisis Prevention Intervention Instructor. Co-owner of Let's Talk Speech & Language Services in Raleigh and President of the Collaborative Autism Treatment (CAT) Campus in Durham.
What: This training will teach parents how to determine the function of their child's behavior so that relevant plans can be developed to teach replacement communication skills (remember that behavior is communication). Learn about the "A, B, Cs" of behavior: Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence.

Everyone is welcome - parents, teachers, therapists, school administrators, and other caregivers are highly encouraged to attend. We had a private behavior training session with Tracy Vail, and it changed our lives. Do not miss this!

Spanish translation will be available with advance request. Please R.s.v.p. to Mariela Maldonado at the Autism Society of North Carolina at (919) 865-5066 or mmaldonado@autismsociety-nc.org by Friday, November 15th to request the Spanish translator.

If you plan to attend either of these events, be sure to check out our new CHART Lending Library; requested books can be delivered at ASNCOC events.
