Book Giveaway! Win The Asperkid's Launch Pad by Jennifer Cook O'Toole

We are so excited to share with you our first ever book giveaway here on CHART! Jennifer Cook O'Toole of Asperkids has generously donated a copy of her newest book, The Asperkid's Launch Pad, for us to give away to one lucky reader. Described as "Home Design to Empower Everyday Superheros", the book is a wealth of suggestions on how to create a home environment that both feels like a safe haven and helps build independent skills. As Jennifer says, your home is your child's "launch pad into success in a neurotypical world".

The Asperkids Launch Pad gives an inside view of what makes an ideal setting for play, rest, learning, and family life for those on the autism spectrum. When we say "inside view", we mean it: not only does the book take you on a room by room tour filled with colorful pictures, but Jennifer also lends her special insider's perspective. As the mom of three Asperkids, the wife of a man with Asperger's, and an Aspie herself, she knows of what she speaks!

The book also offers useful hands-on strategies for teaching the life skills that can be challenging for even the brightest Aspie. We recently wrote about the danger of over-presuming competence in kids with HFA, and the Launch Pad addresses the fact that no matter how much our children know, we shouldn't assume they will pick up daily living skills without direct instruction and plenty of hands-on opportunities to practice them. The idea is to empower our kids and build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the world beyond the comfort zone of home.

Ready to enter the giveaway? Just use the Rafflecopter below. Remember, the more entries you complete, the better your chance to win the book. The contest is open to U.S. residents. The winner will be notified by us via email, and the book will be mailed directly to him or her by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.

By the way, Jennifer Cook O'Toole speaks around the world, but she actually lives right here in North Carolina. In fact, she will be a keynote speaker at the 2013 "Possibilities and Potential" Autism/Asperger Conference coming up in Greensboro this October. {This is the part where we promise that we were not paid by Asperkids or the publisher; we just really like Jennifer's writing, unique perspective, and practical advice!}
