Sensory Friendly Summer Activities

Looking for some sensory-friendly summer activities for your children? There are a couple of great things going on in Durham this summer:

Durham Library Sensory Storytime: Storytime for Children with Special Needs

The sensory storytimes are for children with special needs and their families, including siblings. The program description says that participants will refine their communication and social skills through books, crafts, and hands-on - sometimes messy - activities. *Registration Required* Visit www.durhamcountylibrary.org/ for more information.

Sensory Friendly Films

In partnership with the Autism Society, AMC Theaters are showing sensory friendly films on a monthly basis. The movies are shown with the lights up and the sound turned down in a safe, accepting environment. Audience members are free to get up and move around, sing, dance, etc.

In the Triangle, sensory friendly films are shown at the AMC Southpoint 17 in Durham on one Tuesday a month at 10am. Upcoming films are:

June 29: Monsters University
July 13: Despicable Me 2
August 10: The Smurfs 2
August 31: Planes
