Very Important Topic for the ASNCOC November Chapter Meeting: Accessing Social Services

The Autism Society of North Carolina Orange Chatham chapter will be hosting their monthly chapter meeting next Tuesday, November 13, 2012. The topic this month is a very important one for any family who has a loved one with autism: accessing social services, specifically the Medicaid waiver.

The Medicaid waiver system has undergone huge changes in North Carolina over the last year or so, moving to a managed care model and changing names in the process, from the CAP I/DD waiver to the Innovations waiver. I would strongly recommend that all parents make an effort to attend and learn more about this topic.

These are the details:

Understanding & Accessing Social Services:
The Innovations Medicaid Waiver (formerly known as the CAP I/DD waiver)
Tuesday, November 13th from 7 – 9pm
Extraordinary Ventures, 200 South Elliot Road (across from Whole Foods)
Chapel Hill

Presenters: Kerri Erb, ASNC Senior Director of Quality & Programs
Jennifer Mahan, ASNC Director of Government Relations
Larry Swabe, Regional Consumer Affairs Manager for Cardinal Innovations Healthcare Solutions (formerly known as PBH, the organization that oversees the Innovations waiver for the OPC MCO, which encompasses Orange, Chatham, and Person counties)

Learn about this very important (and sometimes confusing) topic, including an overview of the Medicaid waiver program in NC, who may be eligible, how to apply for services, and an explanation of changes to the program under the new managed care system. Please plan to attend, whether you currently receive waiver services, are on the waiting list, or have not yet applied. There will be some time for Q&A at the end.

Free childcare will be provided for the chapter meeting by Autism Outreach from UNC. Please R.s.v.p. to asncoc@yahoogroups.com if bringing a child. Everyone is welcome at the chapter meetings!
