Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools EC Focus Group in September

Calling all parents of children with autism in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools: the CHCCS district will be hosting an EC (Exceptional Children, a.k.a. special education) focus group as part of their long-range planning initiative. They are inviting feedback on the belief statements which were developed at the Greenhouse Project meeting this past spring. This will help to guide the priorities set by Superintendent Dr. Tom Forcella as he crafts the long term plan for our schools. As CHCCS currently has NO official autism plan, it is critical that parents and educators come out to this meeting to stress the importance of improving education for students with autism in our district.

Dr. Forcella has shown himself to be willing to listen and open to change, so it is important to take advantage of this opportunity to make your voice heard. For those who may not know, Dr. Forcella actually began his career as a special education teacher. He has announced that an independent audit is in the works for the EC Department in CHCCS, and he seems to have a genuine interest in moving this district forward and educating all children.

The CHCCS EC Focus group will take place on September 27, 2012 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Carrboro HS Commons - please try to attend, and share this information widely!
